APPROVED TAX EQUALIZATION MEETING MINUTES
April 10, 2023

The 2023 Tax Equalization meeting was called to order by Mayor Daniel Imdieke on Monday April 10, 2023 at 5:20 p.m. in the Linton Community Center. Upon roll call the following council members were present: James Gartner, Brian Jacob, Randall Meidinger, Wayne Ehley. Absent: Council Members Travis Dockter and Dennis Morris. Also present: Emmons County Auditor/Treasurer Marlys Ohlhauser and City Administrator Sharon Jangula.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Auditor Ohlhauser said the county does not have a director of tax equalization at the present time and she will be presenting the council with information relevant to the tax equalization process. She said a representative from Vanguard had assisted in preparing the information and valuations.

The commercial and residential sales for 2022 were reviewed. Auditor Ohlhauser noted that the overall median sales ratio for commercial properties was 91.2 which is within the state tolerance level.

Auditor Ohlhauser noted the overall median sales ratio for residential properties was 80.2 which was not within the state tolerance level. She said Vanguard had reviewed and adjusted the residential values to bring them into compliance with the state tolerance level. She said a notice of increase was mailed to each property owner with a property value increase of 10% or more and $3,000 or more from the previous year’s assessed value.

No one was in attendance at the meeting to appeal the valuation of their property.

A motion to approve the valuations as presented was made by Randall Meidinger, seconded by Wayne Ehley. Unanimous aye vote; motion carried.

A motion to approve the Homestead Tax Credits and Veterans Tax Credits was made by Brian Jacob, seconded by Randall Meidinger. Unanimous aye vote; motion carried.

A motion to adjourn was made by James Gartner. Meeting adjourned.
